Okay, folks, there is some serious consideration going into releasing
unprotected versions of our utility software. Current proposals include the
"premium" version, (i.e. protecting the mass market copies, and offering an
unprotected version at a higher price.) Now, many of you have said that you
will gladly pay extra for versions with no CP. You have seen DPaint. How much
would you pay for an unprotected version (assuming you had not already bought
this one)? Of course, if this idea does get accepted, those who already own
protected copies will be given a reasonable discount on getting an unprotected
copy. Also, one devious programmer here offered to handle producing custom
unprotected copies. In that idea, users would call a toll-free number and
order by credit card. He would receive an unprotected copy with his name AND
credit card number in the title bar. (That would certainly dissuade
large-scale dissemination of copies.)
Thanks for your feedback. Remember, we are not the only folks who are
copy-protecting, but we are trying to listen to all sides. Don't fire-bomb us
yet, please.
