I have a question about the Amiga startup/Toaster startup. When you install the Toaster it asks you if you want the machine to boot to the Toaster every time you boot. It says that if you change your mind you can always reinstall the software a second time. Well, 2 questions. 1) When I exit the Toaster (having told it to auto boot to the Toaster) I end up in a CLI window. I found that the Toaster install had replaced my startup-sequence file with their own (which was similar to mine, without my "assigns" and making the stack about 9,500 or so bytes. They had renamed my startup-sequence as "STARTUP.PRETOASTER" or something like that. So from the CLI window I was in I just typed EXECUTE S:STARTUP.PRETOASTER and that got me to the workbench, where I always had been before the Toaster install. Then I thought, why not just put the EXECUTE S:STARTUP.PRETOASTER as the last line in the Toaster installed STARTUP.SEQUENCE file, to see if it would do auto- matically what I had been doing. It worked! But then I wasn't able to load ProVideoPost (which you have to do, in a Toaster system, by opening a CLI or SHELL window, and then loading ProVideoPost. Cheryl K, the author, told me it had something to do with memory fragmented by the Toaster. Anyway, after putting that statement into the startup I wasn't able to load PVP no matter what I did. So, instead, I actually copied the text from the STARTUP.PRETOASTER file into the STARTUP.SEQUENCE file, so that it just continues execution of the same file when the Toaster exited. This worked! I then eliminated the commonalities between my startup.sequence and the one the Toaster installed. My question after all of this is, being a neophyte with Amiga I have no idea if there are problems down the road I will run into with this Kludge. Was this ok? 2) Why would the Toaster people make you go through a lengthy 8 diskette install procedure just to delete their STARTUP.SEQUENCE and rename STARTUP.PRETOASTER back to STARTUP.SEQUENCE? Thanks for any help. Rick Brenner
