Montana, in this particular case, is connected to every television
satellite out there that is aimed at the US, and some that aren't. I've got
a 15 foot dish, state of the art sat. equipment, and subscriptions to
everything but the pay-per-view services on one of the telstars. Why? The
wife is a football fanatic ( I certainly am not :^) and we like the news
stuff, Christian Science news, CNN and even headline news. Also watch the
weather channel, all the PBS stations… mostly, I don't watch. Anne does,
and my nephew does, and so does Barry. Me, I prefer pulling satellite
photos off of the GOES birds, but hey, some people like TV. :^) There are
also a lot of radio feeds on those sats… I saw plenty of Amiga
commercials last year. None this year. It's not like there's no
opportunity. It's more like there were very few ads.
Most of the people here use satellite systems to get their fix of the idiot
box. So we get better TV than many people in "the big city" do; certainly
better than the over-the-air faire that I saw in NYC when we were there for
the AmiExpo.
Cable systems are better, but they only have a paltry few channels (50?
100?) compared to many hundreds you can get off satellite (in fact, what
you see on cable almost always came off satellite in the first place).
