Tony: You can experiment with the cliffs from Mons.dem to get the technique right. I've found several different methods can generate satisfactory results. My best so far has been: 1> Set Large topo region 2> load Devil's Tower 3> Enlarge until you have a filled large landscape 4> Repeated Fractalize(1), Enlarge steps until the tower fills about half of the landscape area. 5> Set color map so that cliffs are dark grey (all same color, about 40hex) 6> Set bare earth all same color (about 50hex) 7> Set Snow all same color (about 60hex) 8> Set Exposure bright (about b0hex) 9> Set Contrast dark (about 50hex) 10> Camera facing east, Light to the southwest at about 60 degrees. 11> Exager ON, Shadows ON, GShade OFF, Blend OFF 12> Zoom so that tower fills image. (I used about 24) 13> Haze set to 0 14> Render to 24bits Hi-res, Interlace, Overscan Oh, yes, the Enlarge should be Interpolate rather than Duplicate. This isn't the only way to get good results, experiment and you may come up with better settings. I'm going to upload a JPEG of my results which I Foregrounded onto another image of the area to get a full horizon worth of background. Clint <VRLI>
