Scott, A DOS format (high-level) is all you need to get your system going with the new FFS. That and make sure your system has access to the newest FFS. If you are running a 2.04 ROM, then there is no problem at all. If you are using a ROM switcher, then things get slightly more complicated. To use a ROM switcher, you must make certain that the HD you have is properly installed with the 2.04 version of the FFS. This generally means re-writing the Rigid Disk Blocks with the current copy of L:FastFileSystem which can be found in the L directory of the 2.04 Install floppy. Every HD controller has a different method of updating the RDB's but most if not all do it in a rather simple manner. Consult your controller documentation for more info. Beta versions of the 2.x FFS were not stable and in fact could cause some serious damage to your data. The 1.3 FFS is reasonably stable as is the release version of the 2.04 FFS. The only problem comes when you attempt to talk to a 2.04 formatted HD with the 1.3 FFS. The 1.3 FFS may get confused. If the RDB's are properly setup, then there will be no problems, all will happen automagicly. Dean DKB Software
