Clones have their problems (as do Amigas, Macs, et. al), but you are
being a little hard on them. At work, I have a mouse on COM 1, a
modem/fax on COM 2, and my printer on LPT1. I NEVER have to change
them and this configuration works with virtually every application I
use. Sure, you have to install a printer driver for each application
(unless you use the Windows Print Manager), but this is a one time
operation, and is usually part of the install program.
I still prefer AmigaDos and its true multitasking, but I'm darned happy
with my clone as well. In the last two years, with the drop in prices and
the advancement in technology, I would find it hard to wholeheartedly
recommend that a new computer user buy an Amiga. I used to, but we've lost
our edge.
