I think the reason for the popularity of PeeCee's is that they came out first and volume buyers like governments and large companies got stuck with them. It's that simple <grin>. It's extremely difficult to move large organizations form the status quo. The first reason is institutional inertia. The second is that staffers who pretend to have mastered the murky world of PeeCee memory architecture, TSRs, file handles have a vested interest in keeping PeeCees in place. My brother is the "technology czar" for an international company that has an installed base of 300 PeeCees in Toronto (and god knows how many in the US and other parts of the world). His staff spend most of their time trying to keep track of what works with what! And the fact that price does not play an important role in sustaining PeeCees is evidenced in the fact that this company still buys Compaqs even though clones are less than half the price! Inertia!
