Scott, Heavily localized fields, like speaker magnets, can cause the color shifts and small-region distortions that Steve described. Although the yoke is the most logical choice, monitors can, however, experience a smooth raster rotation if rotated vertically through the earth's magnetic field, too. Is your 1950 sitting flat on your computer? I would move your 1950 around to various positions before I'd go playing with the yoke, professional or not. Moving the yoke threatens to throw off convergence, though there are probably corrections for that. More importantly, purity can be affected, and this get's into little strip magnets and the like, glued to the tube to compensate for non-uniform fields created by a particular yoke position – not recommended. You might wind up with more annoying problems than you started with. If, however, you think it's possible that a good rap on the monitor really did loosen the yoke, then that might be it. BUT, make every effort to rotate the yoke without changing its front-to-back position! It may or may not be all the way up against the bell of the tube. Good luck, Karl – via Whap!
