#Databases on CD-ROM

Funny you should ask about putting DBFs on CD-ROM — I just asked that question
in this forum last week! I got a pointer to a company called Nimbus and they
apparently have some kind of access engine. They are going to send me
something on it, but it hasn't yet arrived.
I haven't done any performance analysis on it, but I'm thinking that if you use
the FoxPro type of indexing, which as I understand reads the index into memory,
that you should be able to get fast results. I have a copy of CodeBase 5.0
which supports this type of indexing, but as I say I haven't set it up yet. I
wonder if you can compare floppy access and throughput to CD-ROM for testing…
