Currently use WB 1.3 on A500 with PPage 1.3… Can't do too much with it
because of memory requirements, but it is good to rough out docs.
Also use WB 2.05 on A3000, also with PPage 1.3, but plan to upgrade to 4.0.
With your trend towards ever more complex and featured Professional series
programs, I doubt that low end users would even be able to use them
productively. I know I bypassed 2.0 and 3.0 because of memory and speed
requirements.
BTW, perhaps this would be a good place to address one of my pet peeves about
Amiga software… Remember the '65 Ford Mustang? Small, inexpensive yet
sporty. Very popular. Made Iacocca famous. Remember the '73 Mustang, or the
'76? Nope. Why? Ford made them bigger and bigger every year, with more and
more features, until those who would have just loved to have had a small,
inexpensive sports car couldn't afford a Mustang, and maybe wouldn't have even
wanted one of those underpowered beasts. Same thing happened to the Pontiac
Firebird…
When I first bought my A500, in the spring of '88, I was impressed by the
performance of the available software, and it's amazing price (esp. considering
the small number of users). Sculpt 3D was $70. I thought PPage 1.2 was
expensive at $250 ( I think that's what I payed for it), but it was cheaper
(still is, btw) than equivalent IBM or MAC software. Now, however, the trend is
towards really full featured products for top of the line machines; a noble
goal indeed. But don't forget there are LOTS of folks out there who have low
end machines (wasn't the 500 the most popular amiga) who can't afford to
upgrade substantial mem. or rom mods. Please dont 'sorry, Please don't ignore
their needs. Perhaps you, and other software producers, could offer earlier
versions on a request only basis for those who don't have high-end machines.
As I said before, I bypassed 2.0 and 3.0 because my 500 couldn't handle it. If
I had just bought a 500, say, a year ago, you wouldn't have had me as a
customer AT ALL, because I wouldn't have been able to a lower grade version of
PPage.
Anyhow, I now have a 3000, so I hope I can keep up with you for a little while,
maybe another year, right??
