P5 Pentium Update: I'm about to replace my motherboard with a VL bus motherboard and I've been doing some research and I thought some of what I've learned might be of interest : * I've been officially told by INTEL that the P5 will be out by the end of this month. * Unofficially, I have interpolated the price of the P5 to be about $3,500 upon release. (My guess.) * INTEL will be manufacturing a "dumbed down" P5 "Overdrive" chip which will be something like a 586SX. It is called the "P24T" and it will work with or inplace of a 486DX2/66 cpu in a motherboard which has a 238 pin socket. The P24T will offer substantial improvement in FP operations over the 486/66. BUT . . . the P24T will not be available until 1994! * There are currently available several VESA local bus motherboards featuring the 238 pin socket (for the P24T). AIR makes one. Another one is called "NICE" (I'm not sure if that's the manuf's name or model name) Don't bother calling Orchid; they still haven't heard about the P24T. Got to have more power, Scotty. Alec Jason
