Oh, I think ex-smokers can be expected to be the most militant,
since the vast majority of smokers who quit in the past 5-10 years
have been pressed to by hassles and social pressure and the like.
They really didn't want to, they felt forced to, and, given their
druthers, they would still smoke. Thus, anyone smoking within a three
block radius of them triggers this and resentment as well.
Of course, there are exceptions. One friend of mine quit because it
was basically an ultimatum from his wife to "Quit or I walk out and
take the kids." HE spends as much time around smokers as he can and
seems to always be in position to inhale the atmosphere….
