I'm surprised about the Philippines and coffee. Americans must not have had
as much cultural pollution effect as I thought.
Still, outside of the Americas, where coffee is The Drink of just about
every country North and South, it can be hard finding good coffee. The Germans
have good coffee, and Italian cappachino is fine, but most European coffee is
awful and the British version sounds like your description of the Philippines.
On the other hand, Australia takes a huge amount of that true java of Java and
with all its Italians you get superior coffee even at small take-out joints and
often cappachino made with it as well.
