The information I have comes from CBM flyers dated, I believe, back in
1990. I have heard that there is a newer version – maybe someone else can
attest to that. Here are the basics for the A2065 (CBM Ethernet board):
autoconfig, 10Mbps (CSMA/CD interface), DMA access to shared RAM,
ANSI 802.3 compliant, can use Thick (Type A) or Thin (Type B) cables,
32K onboard RAM
I couldn't find any ads for one in the January, 1993 issue of AmigaWorld,
but it probably costs somewhere between $200 – $400. If you only need file
access between two Amiga's, you should try using ParNET, which is
available in one of the Amiga libraries (you'll need a special cable,
however – about $30).
The TCP/IP software flyer is also old, and too long to really list
everything here, but here are the basics for AS225:
supports (requires) A2065, requires 1MB RAM minimum, provides VT100
terminal emulation, NFS Client, full host (DNS) table, TFTP, ARP,
FTP, RFC742 FINGER, UDP
I have not seen any ads for this either, but it probably costs somewhere
between $150 – $250. These costs are PER unit, so you would need twice
that for two Amiga's.
Again, ParNET works well and does provide for file access from either
machine. If you "use it often enough", they request a "shareware
donation", I believe.
Other than CBM itself, I don't know where you could get the above Ethernet
components. Others may offer you different solutions, but if you are going
strictly from one Amiga to another, I doubt that you really want a "full
blown" network setup, unless, that is, if you can afford it.
