I've seen IBM multi-media kiosks set up in our local Space Sciences Centre
and was not impressed at all. Whenever an insert was done, it wasn't a
pixel smooth wipe or slide, it was slow/clunky, using large bands of pic
data being clearly put down and then shoving the image over about 40
pixels to lay down the next strip in their slideshow.
Also, the gadgets were slow when you clicked on them. When I did, I had to
wait 10 or more seconds to get another menu.
If IBM labelling is what they want, give it to them. If they want superior
performance for the best price, set them up with either Amiga 1200's or
4000's with AmigaVision installed. Although there are many other
multi-media programs for the Amiga, AV is currently the fastest and
easiest to set up and use. Also, the Amiga can network with PC's
optionally, anyhow, so it's hard to miss.
