#I'm back
Jack,
I once heard a speech by Dick Gregory at a convention where he stated that a
lot of people are on welfare including government employees, scientists,
defense workers and farmers. The more I thought about, the truer it seemed. I'm
sure a lot of soviet defense workers feel the same as their US
counterparts–bring back the cold war, and if Yeltsin goes, they may. It always
struck me as idiotic to make weapons (nukes) that no one ever wanted to really
use. The unfortunate aspect of all of this is that it will probably cost ten
times more to dismantle and dipose of all this war material than it cost to
build it. Some of the military bases were taken off the closing list simply
because the cost of returning it to private use by cleaning things up would
cost more than keeping the base open for another ten years.
