I just looked at the CATS developer CD, and I saw plenty of variations, and those are only the official variations. 🙂 I would love to hear a few horror stories about PD or commercial IFF writing code that does sloppy things… the reality of it is, those formats must be supported in a commercial product that purports to support IFF, particularly if it's a graphics intensive product. Another hassle is that Mac and PC products claim to support IFF (like PhotoShop, Hijaak, etc.) yet they only handle some minimal subset like 32 color or 256 color, and never HAM or rarely 24 bit. The term "IFF" really has very little to do with image formats, per se.
