Dear Sir: I have a Gateway2000 486DX2-66mhz that I recently installed a trantor T128 interface for an external CDR37 CDROM drive. When I first purchased it, it worked well. The computer correctly booted up each time and the CDROM was accessable without difficulty. I then noted an intermittent failure that occurred on boot up when the NECCDR.SYS driver signaled that no devices are responding on the host adaptor. I have now experienced total failure where the CDROM driver will not boot up. The screen displays the following messages at boot up: Neccd: NEC CDROM Driver Version 2.36 –For the Trantor T-128/228 Host Adaptor– SCSI Host adaptor detected at address cc00h Warning: No devices respond on this Host Adaptor No TSLCD Functions in Use driver aborting My T-128 card is set for all DIP swithes set for off ( except switch 6 on) I Have spoken with NEC Tech Support Mr Mike McGoon and we have tried the following without improvement: trial of player DIP termination switch on and off replacement of SCSI interface cable both with and without pass through terminator ensuring disk drive power is on with no disk spinning prior to boot up use on purified config.sys file containing no extraneous statements exclusion of SCSI interface card memory address from the memory manager removal of all other cards from the computer (SoundBlaster Pro, Scanner,Modem) NONE OF THESE MEASURES MADE A DIFFERENCE I Returned the CDROM Reader to NEC Tech Suppoet for Warrenty service and they performed an FW upgrade and cleaning and stated that the drive passed all tests for audio video and CDR. However, when I reconnected the returned unit nothing changed. The boot up error messages continue and the driver does not initialize. Do you have any thoughts on this ? We have spoke before and have been trying to solve this problem for almost 6 weeks. Couls there be a problem with the T-128 ? Thanks B.P. Monahan
