Jim, unfortunately, even on an A3000 with megabucks of memory, you can't play deep-color animations faster than 7-10 frames/second. The problem is, millions-of-colors cards use hi-res pictures to convey information, and that 4-bitplane display leaves few bus cycles for the 680×0 to access Chip RAM. This is why a company is presently hyping something called the "Chip RAM accelerator": with today's fast machines, the problem is not CPU speed but limited access to Chip RAM. A 32-bit version of the Amiga chipset would go a long way towards alleviating these woes; another solution would be to increase Chip RAM from 2 Meg to 4, 8 or 16, so that we could preload all our frames into Chip RAM and then page-flip at any speed up to 60 frames/second.
