Hi Chuck,
The 16th bit on an ATVista is for alpha in 16bit mode. My experience
with using an ATVista under Windows is essentially worthless. There
is a company that had a Windoze utility for passing images from
Windoze paint programs to ATVista's through the clipboard. North
Coast Software comes to mind, but I am not sure. I think it was a
Canadian company too.
