>> PCI is a "smarter" technology That's the ticket. Most of the boards today are somewhat just "ported over" and don't really take advantage from all of PCI's features. These features, however, are more visible in hard disk controllers and network cards than they are in Video Display Adapters. I'm not putting VLB down. If history serves as an indicative, the third party folks always come with something better (Weitek, Chips & Technology, Western Digital, etc.). Now is just a matter of playing catch up. PCI has the same "restrictions" as the VLB bus (32 bits, 33 MHz, etc.) It's going to be interesting to watch both "2nd generation" specs reaching the market. Both VLB2 and PCI2 offer lots of features. Let's see who stays and who goes.
