First, the situation. We have several brochure designs that use a 256 grey scale photo as a background. As such, it has been processed through ADPro to be very, very light. Furthermore, it is to be printed in a color other than black. To this end, is has been colorized in TVpaint. Unfortunately, TVpaint cannot save out 8-bits… only 24/32 bits. So first, I must convert the pic back to 8-bits. BUT, will the color be preserved? Can I end up with, for example, a "256 BLUE scale"? And can this blue-halftone be output onto the appropriate color neg when color separated from a DTP package, e.i. propage or pagestream? Up to now, we have done this trick by using the lightened 256 grey scale properly positioned by itself on its own black neg, and relabling this neg as the appropriate color to be printed. I'm afraid my twenty-five+ years experience in putting mechanicals together may be making me a bit brain dead when it comes to DTP. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
