I don't think your wish is all that silly. I'm used to customizing my CADD software as you suggest. I like the idea of remaking the interface to suit one's wishes. Personally, I'd prefer a customizable menu system with the ability to create macros and a full command line for keyboard entry. I want the keyboard entry for the precise movement of objects/faces/vertices/lights/cameras etc. On one of my customized menus I'd incorporate your idea of having a palette of 3ds files ready for placing. The last thing I'd do, however, is emulate the $%^&%^$%$ motif interface! Actually, the only thing I despise about motif is the dual dialog box. Cutting and pasting and just keyboard entry in general gets screwed up by that dialog box. Please help me out on a software evaluation. (Anyone else out there please chime in) If you have used RIO could you tell me how it stacks up to windows based image composition programs like Altamira's Composer.
