W A I T E G R O U P N E W M E D I A P R E S S R E L E A S E WAITE GROUP NEW MEDIA INTRODUCES VIRUTAL REALITY BASIC Note: A Demo version of VR BASIC is available in Library 3 of Compuserve's Cyberforum (GO CYBER) as VRBDEMO.ZIP. It comes with 3 Worlds you can immediately interact with. Be sure and unzip this file with PKUNZIP -d VRBDEMO.ZIP. The -d option makes sure the directories are created when the file is unzipped. Note you'll need a pair of red blue glasses to see the 3D effects. March 13, 1994 Waite Group New Media introduced VR BASIC, The Virtual Reality World Maker at the Intermedia Show, San Jose California, March, 1994. VR BASIC is a radical new software package that lets you build and control 3-D virtual worlds in full stereovision. Build and view everything from molecules to ferris wheels or make architectural walkthroughs of your dream home! Watch objects "float" outside your computer screen. An easy-to-use scripting language with over 50 statements lets you animate 20,000 polygons per second in real-time for remarkably fluid motion. You get a library of pre-built worlds, clip objects, and a 3-D wire-frame modeling program for making your own objects. Special 3-D glasses are included for real-time viewing in full stereo. The Virtual Reality Scripting Language That Lets You Build Your Own Worlds! Once your world is built, walk, run, or fly through them in 3-D stereovision with a joystick, mouse, or keyboard. VR BASIC's super speed makes it perfect for visualizations and 3-D simulations. Imagine building a 3-D virtual carnival and then riding the ferris wheel, rising above it all in a hot air balloon, or spinning on a merry-go-round. Sit on the planet Saturn and watch as its rings occlude the sun. Build an animated robot you can control, see a tail whip in the air like it's real, or ride a dinosaur as it chases a car across Jurassic Park! You can do this and much more with VR BASIC. VR BASIC Includes: o The powerful VR BASIC Scripting Language with 55 Statements and functions. o 3-D glasses for real-time viewing; watch objects float outside your screen. o Integrated menu-driven Text Editor/Help System. o World building lessons and reference manual. o Supports joystick, mouse, and cursor keys. Allows parent-child linkages between objects, figure files for more complex segmentation. o Renders over 20,000 polygons per second and allows over 2,000 polygons per scene. o Comes with dozens of pre-built clip world objects such as a working robot, Ferris wheel, maze worlds, fractal landscape. System Requirements o IBM PC or compatible o 386/25 or 486 w/640K RAM o DOS 5.0 and up About Waite Group New Media Waite Group New Media is the latest trend-setting direction taken by Corte Madera, California based Waite Group Press. Leaping into the multimedia industry of the 90's, President Mitchell Waite has introduced a division of new media products to push the envelope of product innovation. VR BASIC, the first of the Waite Group's new media products, premiered at the Intermedia show in San Jose, CA, March 1994. Advance orders have already forced the product into its second printing before it premieres on the store shelves. VR BASIC has had an excellent response from the larger software chains such as Software Etc. and Electronic Boutique. The major bookstore chains have also placed advance orders which is an encouraging industry sign since boxed books are still a relatively new phenomenon in the traditional book channels. Waite Group New Media and Waite Group Press products are distributed by Publishers Group West, Emeryville, CA. Starting out as publisher number 160, Waite Group Press is now PGW's fourth largest publisher with sales of $5 million in 1993. The company has grown 50% per year since it started. Availability VR BASIC~ISBN: 1-878739-45-X, includes the 200 page manual, 3.5 inch disk, quick reference card, and 3-D glasses. This package can be ordered directly from Waite Group Press by calling (800) 368-9369 or at your local book store in the computer/software section.
