#Upgrade suggestions
I just received my ADPro 2.5 package and have mixed feelings about the
upgrade improvements. Although the interface now sports a
high-resolution look, it really is no easier to use than the old
interface, and the one thing that ADPro lacks that almost all other
Image Processing programs have is still lacking.
I am referring to the fact that most every other Image Processing
package I have worked with, from Image FX, Imagemaster, and PhotoShop
on PC and Mac, allow the user to view the image being worked on at
the same time they have the interface in front of them. In addition,
all of these programs allow the user to define a specific area of the
image either with a wand or with geometrical boxes, and apply an
image processing operator to that area without changing the area
around it. Your interface continues to do this in a very awkward
manner, by making the user view the area in black and white and
crop. ADPro seems to be such a powerful program otherwise, that I
don't understand why ASDG can't seem to make the interface more
intuitive in this manner. Also, why isn't it possible to view the
image in a separate window on the screen from the other windows that
you have created, like is done in PhotoShop? I don't think I was the
only user hoping for this kind of improvement.
Can we hope that maybe in the future ASDG might consider these
improvements? You have made the interface look like a Mac (PhotoShop
opens separate windows like version 2.5 does), but I'm sure ASDG can
make ADPro even more powerful than PhotoShop! You've got the Amiga
to work with, rather than a MAC! Take advantage of it!
I do like the additional operators, such as Oil Paint, Solarize, etc.,
but I don't think it's necessary to show the viewer each separate
operation that is part of the overall operation. It makes it
impossible to know how long it's going to take. I do miss the
operator scale that would just give me an overall percentage of the
operator's progress.
Overall, ADPro is still the Image Processing program I choose to use
for my fine art, but I do think there is always room for improvement.
