Wayne, The AC can only improve the overall quality of those TAXI DRIVERS (you know the people who drive you to you destination via the senic route, you still get there but at what expense?) who apply for a job as a CAD operator, but have no real idea how to make the software cook. They cost industry millions in lost productivity, as they play on your system for 90 days, before you realize that you have been had. On the other hand those who have years of hands-on experience are, for the most part, easier to deal with in the CAD World. Yes, I know that the infamous Catch 22 is in effect, but with thw AC this effect should be minimal, thereby placing all combatants on an equal playing field. And Now For Something Completely Different! There is something that REALLY bothers me with all the rhetoric concerning AC. Everyone looks to AC as the means to judge the operator, what about the instructor who trained that operator? Don't get me wrong, I am not referring to ATC's or those schools who really care (though those a in the minority), but rather all of those quick buck artists who run night school classes, are part time or for that matter full time college/high school CAD teachers. I've run into many, many people teaching CAD who have only a cursory knowledge of the product. They would never last in a production office. I know, I know educational funding cutbacks have impacted upon the teaching profession greatly. Teachers are expected to do more with less and have no time to keep abrest of industry standards. Well, excuses are cheap. If you want to teach a subject you must know that subject. Too many times I've encountered CAD teachers who have never installed or configured autocad and are at a total loss when something goes wrong. Others have worked with older versions for years and now must teach the current release. No problem, eh? Well they have never taken an upgrade course and teach R12 using R10 thinking.
