486 Bridgeboard Upgrade
For several years, I have been the not-very-proud owner of a 286
Bridgeboard for my A2000. I just received in the mail a clever device from
Improve Technologies they call a "Make-it 486" chip, designed to upgrade a
286-based computer to a 486. I have pulled the 286 chip out of my Bridgeboard,
and replaced it with the "Make-it" chip. The Bridgeboard boots, and some
programs work (I am writing this on TAPCIS), but most programs do not work; the
PC screen simply freezes up, and I am compelled to warm boot the Amiga. Has
anyone any experience with this chip, or know enough to hazard a guess as to
whether it has a chance of working? For one thing, the Commodore 286 ROM Bios
still seems to be operative, which can't help. Obviously, I am out of my depth
here, but I figured it was worth a $269 try, since I bought the gizmo with a
money-back guarantee. Any help will be much appreciated.
