Most of the loss in dubbing I believe comes from the recording of the
information onto the tape and the getting the information back off of the tape.
Running through a device like a flyer won't save this generational loss in
analog dubbing.
I do agree with the response about the tbc. TBC's can let you tweak footage in
a way that maximizes the signal before it is recorded. Maybe the flyer will
allow you to do this as well, if it has certain tbc type settings within it.
Where the flyer obviously helps is in mastering tape, where you don't lose as
much going from the source footage to the edited master, as you would in analog
editing. But then again, I guess this depends on just how much you lose in
digitizing.
