I am a registered Multimedia Developer, but I don't think I have full
rights yet; that was a request in first message. So, technically I
should have rights to section 23. I also have the 3DS File Toolkit,
but I don't know if I want to go that way. I would really like to be
able to change the view dynamically. I am programming for a 3D input
device, and would like to be able to set my view with it, by
positioning it over the model I am digitizing and setting the USER
view to the orientation of the 3D input device. I may, in the future,
want to do lights and cameras in the same way; I haven't looked into
that yet.
I have another question. Comming from the CAD world, I am used to
right-handed coordinate systems, where X cross Y gives you Z. After
being confussed for a couple of hours, the first time I used 3DS, I
finally figured out that the Z and Y are flipped. Looking through
the manuals, I found that you could change the labels, so I change
them to XYZ instead of XZY. I have been working with it that way
ever since. Now that I am finished with my program, I have to change
them back to XZY, but I don't know how this will affect my program.
In other words, I don't really get the default 3DS coordinate
system. It says that it is a right-handed system, but that doesn't
seem to be true; it really doesn't make any sense to me, could you
please explain it?
