Karl, With respect to the RI line interfering with the SEL line… Maybe that explains the following: I have an external modem on serial port and a Migraph scanner in the parallel port. When the telephone rings (voice call, fax or data), the scanner light blinks in rhythm! This has always made me very nervous. But everything seems to work. I wonder what would happen, though, if I was scanning a document when the phone suddenly would ring. And I've never tried scanning while on line with the modem.
