James, If you have a SCSI already in the system and an available address, it is just a matter of setting the address on the tape unit, plug it in and away you go. In the backup software, there will be a configuration panel where you select which device to back up to. All the programs you mention either find the tape automagically, or you supply the SCSI address and the software then finds and confirms that it is a tape. The drives go for between $600-$700 for a refurb to $800 – $1000 for new. At least that was what they were when I bought about 1 1/2 years ago. The 90 meter tapes (2 gigs) run $8 – $10 a piece depending on whether they are generics, name brands, you buy in bulk (more than 5 at a time) and the like. Buy from a place like MEI/Micro Center as opposed to the local office supply house that will likely want about $14 – $19 per tape. These I buy all the time, so this price info is more accurate than my drive price info, I'm sure. Now, having said that, I'd also say that if you are going to work with captured video, you may want to see if the budget will allow going to a higher capacity tape like and 8 or 10 gig drive. wmc – via Autopilot!
