David, There is no way to maintain a virus in the computer's memory once the power is turned off. The Amiga will boot from a floppy if a bootable floppy is in the internal floppy when power is turned on. If you use an original floppy, one you KNOW isn't infected…then there is no way, at that point in time, a virus can be active. I strongly suspect he had a hardware problem all along, and his disconnecting of the HD fixed the hardware problem. He may have had a virus on his hard drive, but there is no way that I know of for a virus to cause a problem with a COLD bootup from an ORIGINAL, write protected workbench disk. Don
