CD ROM
Hi dennis,
>> I need some info please. I have a amiga 2000 with a scsi drive and a A4000
with a IDE. I wish to buy a CD ROM for the A4000. What special drivers do I
need and if my 4000 crashes and burns can I hook the CD to the 2000 without
another sopecial driver ? I have limted race hoses as ROSANNE A DANNA used to
say ( limited resources). <<
There are two choices: Buy a cheap SCSI controller for your A4000 (e.g. an
Oktagon will do)
and a SCSI-II CD-Rom drive. Than you can use the CD-Rom with your A2000, too.
Or get an ATAPI-IDE drive and hook it to the IDE port of your A4000. No need to
buy a controller. You need my a4000_atapi.device, though (a beta release is in
the library). This will be much cheaper, as you don't need to buy a SCSI
controller.
If your A4000 crashes and burns you can buy a TandemCD+IDE controller and use
the CD-Rom with the A2000. (You only need to spend money for that IF the A4000
crashes and burns 🙂
Remember: SCSI is more flexible, perhaps you want to buy a tape drive or DAT
later when you won the wheel of fortune… 🙂
