#Future of DTV?
Ok … I have a crud understanding of your equipment and technique. I would
suppose that your notebook would HAVE to be color to do this right? I think
I could get by with a small amount of high quality LE so that I could do
titling, SFX, etc. and mix this back into an MX-1 as a source? If so then
maybe I could start with my current 16mb ram and add more HD and appropriate
cards/software?
As a point of reference here's where I'm starting from …
> TR-700 Hi8 cam
> 3 PC WFWG network
> 486SX40, 16mb, 340mb+540mb ide; ISA graphics accelerator card
> 486SX25, 18mb, 130mb ide (Toshiba 4400SX monochrome notebook);
> 386DX33, 8mb, 210mb ide; ISA graphics accelerator card
> cdrom x 3;
> MediaVision PAS-16; SoundBlaster 2.0;
> MusicQuest MidiPC and Roland JV90 synth;
> NEC 15FG x 2;
> HP550C InkJet Color Printer (and HP IIIP but that's b&w)
> Video Director 2.0, PowerPoint 2.0, WFW 2.0, Excel 4.0
> NAD 21 monitor (not S-video but this is available in my home theater
setup) and stereo video speakers
> Mitsubishi U82 HiFi S-VHS, JVC HR-D470U Stereo HiFi VHS,
Sanyo HiFi SuperBeta
> Sony WM-D6C Portable Stereo Cassette Recorder
> Sony CDP-505ESD CD Player
And I do have one other expense worth mentioning … underwater photography
(slides) and so I plan to add an u/w video housing and lights. This alone
could be $1,000 but is more likely to bump $2,000 although it can be added a
piece at a time. I'm getting the sense that my PC horsepower is marginal
at best for NLE. But, if I can get started with a rational upgrade plan
that's ok. If I were doing this from scratch then I'd likely be looking
hard at PowerPC's. But this is not the case, alas.
