Tim!
Caught the tail end of this and bin usin' the Targa 64 for a year or so. At a
recent TV expo in London the Inscriber importers were NOT using the 2000 card
which is surprising considering that Targa 64 and Inscriber were a bit like
'horse and carriage', 'peaches and cream' etc.in the past. I'd guess that love
and marriage are on the rocks. In DOS terms they seem to have gone down other
routes.
We're in both PC and MAC environments here and in the UK the trend SEEMS to be
let the macs do the magazine and graphic design stuff and look to DOS for
non-linear. Its cheaper, faster and what's more there's more happening in that
country. A year or do ago I saw a couple of mac based systems running pretty
well (AVID plus An Other). Now it's largely PC based and everyone in the post
production industry seems to be trying to screw you down to sign on the dotted
line.
It may also be that what post prod stuff may end up as is a mix of linear and
non-linear. Sony call it hybrid editing and it has a lot going for it, the
folding green stuff seems to be the only major hangup here.
But I guess that's universal.
