Hi Barb, >>Why is it that video producers insist on buying equipment first… before having a solid business plan as to what they're going to do to justify buying the equipment in the first place?<< Well, there is no business plan because there is no business. My DTV started out as both a ministry for my church (with only a consumer camcorder) producing the Sunday service for cable TV (which I still do *gratis*), and as a creative hobby. But then friends begin coming to you and asking "Can you shoot a video of a birthday party?" "Can you do this little commercial for my business?", etc. And besides always wanting to improve the churches' program (which only buys tapes for the program) there is a minimum of quality I would insist on before I would feel comfortable actually charging someone for a production. So, it is something that is evolving/expanding from simply a non-profit Christian ministry and hobby/interest into (eventually?) a business and second income. Profit isn't yet even in my scheme of things at this point, as long as I have my main source of income. The idea is only to begin to sell some simple videos to offset the cost of additonal equipment at this point. Regards, Jim
