Yes, I agree with you. I guess i did not go quite far enough with my "atleast" sentence. I was primaraly talking about the R&D side of things. The main thrust of my argument is that we must continue to produce new technology to stay on top. Somthing i think you agree with me about. On the avionics question… The F-15 continues to get upgrades to it's avionics suit, allowing it to serve for an extended length of time. But the newer tech. will not, for the most part, fit into the current fleet of planes in our inventory. Therefore we MUST Design and build new platforms to use this new technology. I.E. the F-117, B-1, B-2, F-19, ect. Now, with all that said, the F-15 and others in our invintory are still the premier combat aircraft in the world because of upgrades and add on's. And most of the new technology that goes into those upgrades is not available even to our allies…They are kept VERY secret. I do not know if you were in the service or not, but i saw some strange things while i was in the navy pertaining to new technology. At one time we had an British flight officer visiting our flight line and he made the comment to our first officer that he wish'd that they had the same avionics suit on his plane…The Tornado. Now that has been a few years ago…Things may have changed since then. I.E. Maybe their buying from us now.<G> All of that led me to believe that they do not have the same capability that we take for granted. Maybe someone else with more recent experince will read this and correct me, but my own experince is all that i have to go on. You know, i think this is longest letter i've written in a LONG while.
