Paul – Some defense procurement is indeed tied to maintaining the industrial base, but most isn't. We're now maintaining a force structure intended to meet current operational requirements, not cold war ones. DoD is even having to find novel ways of meeting the current requirements, as the forces we have left are being overtasked. My personal opinion, is that we'd have a difficult time pulling off another Desert Storm – we've cut too much. (and don't expect to be bailed out by calling of the reserves either, they've been cut back significantly as well). Jeff Schweiger
