Hi, Sorry for the delay in replying to your request for more info on Felix Fluorite Mine. I have the flu and am just getting to the point where I feel sociable. This locality has had that name as long as I can remember. I doubt that it was every really a mine but maybe a prospect. It was listed for fluorite in 'Minerals of California', Ca Div of Mines Bull 136, 1948, under the name Felix but with no production. Its location is about 1/2 mile east of San Gabriel Canyon Road and 1/4 mile north of Sierra Madre Avenue in Azusa. This is on the front of the San Gabriel Mountains above a commercial gardening operation. Because of this location the best time to go is on a cool overcast day or you cook since there is no cover. Minerals: fluorite, fluorite, fluorite and more fluorite. Everything from cubes to octohedrons and pale blue to lime-green. The more typical specimens are green step-faced octohedrons, but it depends on what vein you are in. In truth, there is drusy quartz associated in some areas and rare minute galena crystals. Some fluorite crystals have little orange-red balls in them that I have been told (unconfirmed) is minium. Sorry, none of mine fluoresce. All for now. Hope this if useful. – Bill
