Welcome to the forum!
I have been waiting to see if the pros who haunt this section had good
references on causes and effects of earthquakes, but I guess your question was
too all-encompassing to stir up much interest. And/or well-known on-line
references do not exist; can we interest you in a textbook?
The Scientific American of March 1990 talks about non-plate-tectonic quake
origins; there are more articles on the subject listed in my Scientific
American index SCIAM.ARC in this forum's library.
sci.geo.earthquakes is a newsgroup that is more specialized on this subject;
see my notes on accessing newsgroups from CompuServe in SCIGEO.TXT in this
forum's library. People there may know more about Internet resources (as
oppposed to CompuServe resources).
You may stir up more action here if you ask a more specific question.
