To Anyone with experience on PC Link of a Wizard 9600 via a Sharp CE-131T (RS-232 interface) & Missing Link 1.0 or Desktop Set 4.0c, etc… & debugging a com port communication problem (DOS & WFW 3.11) on a Pentium system. I have a Micron Pentium 90 PCI Powerstation (corrected FPU Intel Pentium . version) running MS DOS 6.22 on 32 MB RAM with a PCI/ISA Micronic motherborad with PnP Phoenix BIOS (M54Pi-n11 version) Buslogic BT-646c SCSI-2 interface linking HP-IIc scanner externally, Plextor Quad-Speed CD-ROM, Python 4mm 2GB DAT backup, 3.5" & 5.25" HD FD along with two Seagate 2GB Barracuda SCSI HD. The system has AWE32 sound card linked to DMA 1 & HMA 5 with IRQ of 5. There is a MIO-550 card inserted by Micronics at the time of purchase to provide a com Port 3 & 4 with standard addresses & game port (it works). The MIO-550 has an IDE interface which is not enabled due to the SCSC interface. There is a Seiko Label Pro attached to COM 3 and this works well. The mouse is linked to com 2 and the US Robotics Courier V. Everything on com 1. There is 2 parallel ports (LPT1 on Buslogic card & used on a Optra R & the second on the MIO-550 as LPT2 not used at present). My previous Gateway 2000 486/33 (IDE interface & ATI Ultra Pro with no available com 4) had been established such that the com port 3 was shared between my Wizard PC-Link & the Seiko Label Pro printer without problem so long as both were not used concurrently. I had attempted to established the same setup with the SCSI based Micron Pentium. I have the Label Printer working well & consistently. I have not been able to find a way to reliably link the Wizard 9600 with my computer regardless of software or com port permutations. The one time I did manage to load from the Wizard to the Micron it was when a deliberate DMA conflict between with the AWE32 card and the MIO card com port. The MIO card offers ability to configure faster com transfer & receive to the configured port to receive or transmit on DMA 1 or 3 (4 combinations over ports 3 and 4 with option by default to use DMA 1 with com 3 and DMA 3 for com 4). As a consequence the sounds in WFW did not work. I have NOT been able to reproduce this conflict to at least permit re-establishing link with the Wizard 9600. I have tried using and disabling the MIO DMA options. I have tried from com 1 to 4 all to no avail in re-establishing communication with the Wizard 9600. This is true both in windows & DOS with even the original WIzard Link from Mark Tirschell & Sharp's OL II. The fact that I was successful verifies the wire connections, the Wizard 9600 configuration was set appropriately.
