In Amiga-ese, there is absolutely no difference between a task and a process
other than a task cannot call AmigaDOS (filesystem) functions because much of
it is written in BCPL and is not reentrant.
When the PC world says "multi-threading", for the most part they mean
pre-emptive multitasking — what Windows95 and the upcoming MacOS promise to
have (and we've had since the beginning.
BTW, now days I'm programming MacOS for a living … my next project will be in
Next Step, and then some NT stuff. There are SO many things that make the
Amiga so much nicer and powerful than those environments … and SO many places
where it is obvious that Commodore just wanted to put out quick and dirty junk
to shut the users up (AmigaGuide, print capabilities, interface toolkits, VM,
etc., etc., etc.).
