Some disks, mainly games, appear as "NOT A DOS DISK" because of the copy
protection on that disk so DOS cannot access it. The disks are normally
self-bootable.
R/ errors happen either because your drive is bad or dirty, or of course the
disk is bad. The most common cause of disk failure is removing the disk when
the drive is still active.
You can obtain a new internal disk drive for somewhere around $50 U.S.
Although disk errors are not that common, I have found a slightly higher
disk-death rate on Amiga. Also, FYI, A1000s have only low-density drives so
tis better to use only low density disks…
