According to the materials I received from NAB, the fee for exhibits only is
$175. All Toaster dealers are being given two passes only.
I have a form from last year, and have been making copies to fax for those who
wish to go. If you give me your title, company name, address, etc, with a note
as to what field you're in, I'll be glad to fax one out for you.
By the way, if you arrive Sunday, there is going to be a general news
conference, with all interested parties invited, by Newtek at Ceasar's Palace
in Colesium Room II, 5PM Sunday evening, April 9. As they say, "Be THERE!".
More news. I just received a flyer about a new alpha chip, rendering engine. A
complete Windows NT work station with CD-ROM and 166Mhz processor, Windows NT
installed, for $3995.00. The package includes a large monitor, also.
I'll have more details Tuesday.

I recorded about 6 minutes per GB when using the highest (standard) resolution
with 3.94. Using the lower resolution (extended play) resulted in a 40% greater
capacity or almost 9 minutes per GB.
Since the newest resolution is purported to be the highest (equivalent to
lossless D2), then it will provide less than 6 minutes per GB. I am also
puzzeled as to why tech support would say that the newest would do 6. However,
the Beta tape I digitized was fairly complex, as a corporate demo should be, so
maybe it would have taken less if the material was less detailed.
In all their space estimates, they have referred to ranges, since the
complexity if the image has to effect each frame. We'll just have to do some
benchmarks when the 4.0 arrives next week.

We can book LightWave 4.0 for you, but the $149 upgrade price for it was only
for those who had purchased the Amiga standalone version. If what you want is
the Amiga version of LightWave 4.0, and it doesn't have to be standalone, you
can get Toaster 4.0, with LightWave 4.0 as soon as it's finished, for $595.
NewTek informs me that there was no discount on LightWave for ScreamerNet
owners, since ScreamerNet is not a version of LightWave, just a networking
interface. At that time the price for ScreamerNet was $2000.
If you ended up with a standalone copy of LightWave for Amiga, then you can get
the upgrade directly through NewTek by giving them your registration.
Don't know if I've helped, but that is my understanding.

Your guess sounds about right. How much time does the extended play give you.
That makes it a pretty easy comparsion. You might try digitizing exactly one
minute, see how large the file is, and how much time the NewClip requester says
you have. We could build a small table and have NewTek include it in the new
manual we're all writing.

Hi Dan – I've seen validation errors caused by system crashes during a disk
write. When the system is rebooted, it starts to scan the drive and notices
that something is not correct. (bit maps usually) and it starts a long
validation process. Now one of two things happen – It clears itself up, given
the time to scan the entire disk, or the system is shut down and rebooting can
either start the process all over again, or the drive doesn't even mount any
more. When it's validating, the drive reads 100% full (you can see this on the
drive's window) and you will not be able to modify the contents of the drive
(no writes or deletes or moves).
Whenever I do succeed in getting it accessable again, I start making a backup
and soon as that's done, I completely reformat the drive (don't use QUICK) and
then reload the software.
Sounds like you've been lucky so far. :v)

1/ Whenever I've installed a system and had trouble getting first AutoHue and
then Flyer Calibrate to run error free, the video playback experiences color
shifts.
When I run AutoHue, the system requests a stable video signal attached to
Toaster input one, and whenever I provide a live camera signal, it hues fine.
Be sure to do the Flyer Calibrate (it is to be found inside the Programs drawer
which is inside the NewTek drawer on your Flyer installed harddrive.
2/ With the update to 3.94 (the version you should be using) the Flyer Format
program either gets the name switched or forgets to name them altogether. It is
possible that the drives were initialized in different SCSI ports so you
switched them when you hooked them up. They normally would require Flyer
Format before they would be useable. When Newtek finished the system and some
docs they realized that you couldn't use FlyerA: for all the drives on the
first SCSI controller, so they started adding the device ID, so you have
FlyerC0: as SCSI device '0' on the C controller. The physical device (FA0, FB0,
etc) is discrete however.
3/ If your souces are properly terminated, you may find that doing a sucessful
AutoHue and FlyerCalibrate will solve the problem. At least, that would be the
next step.

So far my use of LW consisted of using it through Hollywood FX to create a
four-corner peel from the center. I thought LW was great.
However, we are planning on producing our own demo, but not just for the
experience. It will most certainly make us better able to work out client
requirements.
The demo will help to demonstrate ever facet of the Toaster.

Just spent a day working with a dedicated Amiga/Commodore repair service. They
fix everything from C64's to A4000's and will even have a crack at an IV-24.
As soon as I have all the details, I'll post a note here.
By the way, they're very busy.
