That's the conclusion I came to also. I just gave MSCDEX a drive that was
"out a couple" of letters, and then fudge my RAMDRIVE as needed. It's a
pain if you add a new hard drive, since they all load "at once" with the
controller, either before or after the RAMDRIVE, and you can't move the
RAMDRIVE to after the CD-ROM, as you noticed.
Presumably the solution is a RAMDRIVE.SYS which accepts a drive flag. I
don't know if there is one available, but the one from Microsoft certainly
doesn't.
