As far as outputing the Hi-Fi only goes, if you look on the front pannel you will see a button labled Hi-FI/Normal mix. If you set it to Hi-Fi you will get only the Hi-Fi, if you set it to Normal Mix you will get both the Hi-Fi and linear channel of audio mixed together. Also if you look at the remote you will see a button that says Audio Out. Push this button watch the audio level display on the front of the deck. You will notice 2 boxes under the meeter bars with a L in one and a R in the other. As You push the button the display will cycle through either both boxes ( Left and right Hi-Fi audio out ), jsu the L box ( Left Hi-Fi out ), just the R box ( Right Hi-Fi out ) and no boxes ( Linear audio out). OK now onto linear audio in. The only way to record to the linear track is via an audio dub, or if you have it hooked to an editing system in insert edit mode then all audio will be recorded in audio dub mode on the linear channel. A bit of warrning for dubing with a 1970. The linear channel has a automatic gain controll ( AGC ) that can be a real pain in the A%$. Lets say you are dubing voice over to a 1970. When you first start talking the audio will start out at a real high level. This is because the AGC has kicked the level way up since you were not talking during the preroll. After the initial blast of sound the AGC will kick the level down to a moderate level and hold it there. Oh and you are right about the manual…..IT SUCKS!!!!! Hope this helps, Michael W.
