John, if you master to Hi8 then you can use that master a do PCM audio dub
… with the proper Hi8 deck of course. This will be MUCH better than the
simple linear mono low fi audio dub of SVHS. The only way round this is to
mix audio with initial assembly which will not give smooth transitions
between cuts. Or suffer a generational loss with SVHS. Either SVHS or Hi8 the
final target will probably be VHS for distribution. So I don't see the wisdom
of going SVHS for master unless this is for personal use and this is all
you're going to playback AND don't care about audio (unlikely). The issue of
SVHS/VHS tape better standing up to repeated viewings than Hi8
notwithstanding.
Am I overlooking something here?
