We liked Indeo, but got much better performance on low end machines with Cinepak. Pick up a book called "How to Digitize Video" by Nels Johnson. In addition to being a good reference on video digitizing and codecs it includes a disc with a utility to convert between AVI and QT called TRMOVE. Very simple, no nonsense, does it's job and goes home Windows program. Perhaps Nels could jump in here with some ordering info? Nels… Nels?
