Tim, your solution depends on what you intend to do. If you want to edit long videos (more than, say 10min) you probably want to get a prosumer editing setup- not go with computers. (especially not non linear) You would have to spend a considerable amount more money to get a working PC solution than you may have or want. The PAR costs around $4000, with Razor Pro at $800. You'll probably want at least 16mb more memory, so add $600. Then you'll need another $350 for a good audio card (Turtle Beach Monterey is recommended for RP). And make sure that 1GB is free, or add another at $500. As you see, it's not cheap- and won't support long videos. Probably not more than 15-20 minutes. You can add another drive to the PAR, but you would have to split up your video in half in order to play it back. (can't play off both drives seamlessly- just one then the other) On the other hand, you can get a decent SVHS editing system for less, depening on the level of quality you want for the decks. Some higher end home VCR's would work too, probably. (I don't have any numbers here, but there are alot of Video camcorder magazines that would have ads for something like you'd need.) The third option is to use the PC for control of video decks, but most of those need high end vcr's to lock up correctly. I know Mac's have VISCA control packages, that control Sony Hi8 decks, but don't know if there is a PC equivalent. Good luck, and God bless. JNJ
