Nur,
There are a number of LAN-based VideoConferencing systems however there are
honestly severe limitations with these because there is still insufficient
processing power in the PC – even in a 100MHz Pentium. All the LAN based
systems available today are low frame rate, low resolution and indifferent
motion handling capability.
The best software Codec on the Market is from a US Company called Vivo
Software. They are a Boston based Company. PictureTel another US Company has a
Product called LiveLAN.
If you have the infrastructure then I would urge you to try to stay with the
WAN VideoConferencing System for another few years untill we get more power in
the PC and also till we get International Standards for interconnectivity of
different manufacturers Products. At the moment all LAN-based systems use
proprietary technology.
The WAN based VideoConferencing Systems use 112/128KBP's and give acceptable
quality. They also include collaboratiive computing functions which make them
usefull products.
I hope you find this usefull.
Best Regards
Iain
